Located at 1172 Hertel Ave, this mural is of none other than the great Jerry Garcia. Born on August 1, 1942, Garcia was a musician from San Francisco, California. He stole his mother’s car in 1960 and was given an option to join the military instead of prison. However, he went AWOL on many occasions, resulting in a general discharge. Garcia later co-founded the rock band Grateful Dead in 1965. The band performed a total of 2,314 shows from 1965 until Garcia’s death in 1995. Despite nearly three decades removed from his death, his legacy lives on through his music, his fans, and this beautiful mural.
